The conference is organised by Africa First, LLC of Minnesota, USA, in association with and support of the Ghana Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, UNAIDS Ghana Office, Ghana AIDS Commission and Esperanza Medicines Foundation.

The objective of the conference is to identify traditional medicines and practices used in the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, cancer, sickle cell, anaemia, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, stroke and mental disorders.

Participating organizations are Bastyr University, American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, African Council on AIDS Service Organizations, Association for the Promotion of Traditional Medicine International (PROMETRA), Centre for Scientific Research Into Plant Medicine, Center for World Indigenous Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, L’Association des Thérapeutes Traditionnels du Togo, Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (GHAFTRAM), Centre de Recherche et de Valorisation des Plantes Médicinales de Dubréka, Republic of Guinea, Traditional & Modern Health Care Providers Together Against AIDS (THETA) of Uganda, Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA), Traditional Health Practitioners Association of Zambia (THPAZ), International Traditional Health Practitioners and Research Council of Malawi, Angolan Traditional Medicine Association and others.

The African Journal of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative medicines (AJT-CAM) publishes research in all areas of applied medicinal plants, Traditional medicines, Complementary and Alternative Medicines, food and agricultural technologies, and promotion of healthy use of medicinal products.

The Journal is published three times a year, and is available online.
